Earth’s Most Animal Health-Centric Law Firm™

VetMedLaw by Francissen Rafelson Schick is our commitment to the animal health industry. Our team is here to support your mission of enriching the lives of every animal you touch, and we can help you every pawprint along the way.

Our lawyers help protect pets and vets.

We are a team of lawyers who are passionate about advancing animal health.

VetMedLaw is a revolutionary legal practice, dedicated to improving animal health. As the future of veterinary medicine continues to change, we recognize the need to serve the unique needs of veterinarians, practice owners, and animal health manufacturers. Together, we can help ensure that pets have access to the best quality medicine, and veterinary prescription and OTC products with the greatest efficacy and safety. Our Animal Health Law practice is led by Jeff Schick, CVPM, ESQ, an attorney and Certified Veterinary Practice Manager who grew up in a family of veterinarians. Jeff’s experience in veterinary medicine began in his formative years, when he worked in his mother’s veterinary dermatology practice. Jeff helped lead the practice through a period of growth, eventually helping the practice expand from a 2,000 square foot dermatology center to a 12,500 square foot multi-specialty referral center.

For Veterinarians, we can help along your journey, so that pets are able to benefit from your expertise. Whether you need help with negotiating your employment contract, protecting your loved ones with an estate plan, or you need help with starting up a new practice, we are here to help you every step of the way.

For Practice Owners, we assist with a full range of corporate, employment, and tax law. We can advise and develop Buy-Sell Agreements, Operating Agreements, Tax Strategy, employee handbooks, employment law compliance, California Sexual Harassment & Abuse Prevention training, human resources policy and SOP development, and exit strategy planning.

For Animal Health Manufacturers, our extensive Intellectual Property and eCommerce experience can help you develop effective brand protection strategies to help stop diversion and keep pet owner dollars within the veterinary hospital (and authorized distribution networks). We can assist with MAP Policy implementation and enforcement, counterfeit prevention, diversion prevention, grey-market enforcement, and unauthorized seller enforcement from major online marketplaces. We also offer a full range of corporate law services, including tax planning, employment law compliance, human resource policy development, and M&A advisory services.

I founded VetMedLaw because I recognized that the unique legal and business needs that my veterinary-dermatologist parents faced in private veterinary practice were not currently met. VetMedLaw is a commitment to the profession, and the pets who rely on your expertise and passion.

There is a lot of misinformation out there, and many consultants offering similar services that downplay the need for legal advice. Some of these consultants even cross the line of practicing law without a license, and their advice is often dangerous. Just as you wouldn’t want a veterinary technician performing ER surgery without a veterinarian present, you should not be hiring consultants without legal training to help make important decisions with serious legal consequences.

Work with an eCommerce attorney that understands the intricacies of selling on platforms like Amazon, and the struggles online sellers face today. An understanding of facts behind the scenes, like whether sellers have access to customer information for direct marketing purposes, who controls where Amazon FBA. inventory is sent, or who has the final say with respect to customer service between you or Amazon, can make a big difference in your case.

Advisors and consultants who are not familiar with eCommerce platforms often make assumptions about what it’s like to sell online that can damage your case. Regardless of whether you work with us or not, work with an eCommerce attorney that understands your facts. Don’t be afraid to challenge your advisor by asking questions that will help you make that determination.
